Update: Finally I have received my ID after 6month. I applied on 20th June 2024 and received it on 21st Jan 2025. Thank you guys for your and assistance.

This forum has been a great source of information.
Congrats one last time, brother. So you're holding a green ID book, yes? I was joking with a friend a while ago, saying that even if I collect the "green mamba" today and it gets discontinued TOMORROW, I will run back to stand in line for the smart card GLADLY! 🤣🤣🤣

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know where PRP holders in Eastern Cape can apply for Green bar coded ID? I went to the port Elizabeth branch in North End yesterday and was told they stopped issuing to Permanent residents and Naturalized citizens since 2022. I was told to try Alice in East London, Fort Beaufort and 2 other places they are far away but I just wanted to know if anyone has recently done their ID's in any of these offices and the requirements?

I have called these offices but they don't answer the phone. Please help 🙏🏾

@jollem Last I heard about Randburg is that they've been digital for a while now. Meaning, no issuance for PR or naturalized applicants....
If he is 12 he is not getting an ID book. He is just getting a ID number allocation. Which is essentially a Late Registration of Birth (that is the form you fill with the reason being "obtained PRP"). I really think they still do that there.

Ahh, ok. Thank you, I learned a new thing today. And yes, you're 100% right. Our child is 8 and only has a birth certificate(with her id No. by default). Will only get an ID book once she hits 17.

I am having the same issue with you. Mine is a replacement. I misplaced my ID book. I am thinking of going to Grahamstown.

Hi,

I need to apply for my daughter's green ID book. She just turn 16, she has a PRP.
I went to Grahamstown where she is at school. They gave me the same reply as xty4evermore, Alice, Fort Beaufort, and another one I don't .

Please could you give the name of the other 2 xty4evermore?

If someone know, please could you confirm what are the necessary documents to apply for your child's first green ID Book, knowing that the parents and the child are foreigners with PRP's, and parents already have their green ID books.

Thank you

This is the list of offices in Eastern Cape still issuing Green bar coded ID's. I got this picture from home affairs Port Elizabeth where I was told that they no longer issue green bar coded ID's for PR holders and Naturalized citizens.

I was told to go to any of the following offices to apply.

Peddie local office
Fort Beaufort office
Keiskammahoek office
Alice office
Stutterheim office.

I finally went to Fort Beaufort and I did my first ID application there. First time application for PRP holders takes plus or minus 6 months. I do not know what the requirements for kids applying for ID will be. If you live in Grahamtown you are closer to Fort Beaufort it's better you go there. The Google map took me there from Port Elizabeth. Another good thing about the Fort Beaufort branch is there's not a lot of people there we were finished in 30 minutes.
Good luck 🤞

Hi! Firstly, congratulations and good luck! Where did you apply? What were the requirements? How long were you in the queue? How long was the entire process? Thanks in advance!
