Hi All

I am a retired UK citizen considering relocating to Portugal.
I have checked the D7 visa requirements and have enough ive income.
My query is , do I need to have a lump sum in a Portugal bank as well to obtain the D7 visa?

Thanks
Andy

You're supposed to have the lump sum in reserves in a Portugal and they like to see at least three months of (PT) bank statements. The sooner you can fund, the better. People have gone in with fewer than three months and have been okay, but each office is a little different, just to up your anxiety levels. :)

Thanks for your reply.
I read somewhere that you needed to have 14,000 euros in an but can't seem to find any further confirmation of this.
I am looking at various options and Portugal seemed a good choice as the ive income amount is not high but a lump sum of 14,000 euros isn't an option for me.
I could have my income paid into a Portugal bank for 3 months though if that would suffice.

For US people (and I think everyone on the D7) you need to have 12x the minimum monthly wage in a Portugal bank. Current minimum wage is €870, so you need to have a minimum €10,440 but I'd put a couple extra thousand in. €12,000 to €14,000 would be comfortable. As always, mo' money, mo' better.

Being Portugal the year for wages/D7 is 14 months ie 12 plus one extra for Christmas plus one extra for holiday so in 2025 is €870 x 14 months = €12 180 and the same (minimum) lump sum in Portuguese bank . The bigger problem may be having suitable accommodation for D7, such as A years rental contract as part of the application BUT you won't know when the D7 will be granted (or not).

If you are going to rent, you'd better have more than 12 000 Euros in your bank .
As pointed before, the minimum wage in Portugal (year 2025) is 870 Euros X 14 months and you should aim to have more than the bare minimum.
When g a rental contract you may have to pay 2 to 3 months deposit, plus 1 month rent upfront.
Also make allowance for extra costs of pre-visits to choose an area, and to sort out your NIF, bank & rental contract. It all takes time.

If you are going to buy a home before you move, you won't have to bother with a 12 month rental contract. But you should be able to show proof that you can afford to move to Portugal.
