Hi Guys,

I’ve just recently had an opportunity to relocate out to Canada with construction company with works across Canada including Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver just being a few places. Decent salary on offer with benefits including a relocation package and visas.

I’d be going with my partner, no kids so nothing really tying us down at the moment. My initial choice was Toronto as I’ve recently been and loved it albeit was only there for 5 days and appreciate being there as a tourist and living there is completely different. It’s also a direct flight from Scotland and a few hours away from a friend in New YorkI’ve heard and seen quite a bit of info that it’s slightly declining and not what it once was. Cost of living, high rental prices etc. which had me second guessing my location.

with that said I think the issues are relevant to the majority of places now including Glasgow where I’m from, rental and housing prices are up, cost of living, lack of affordable housing, insurance and petrol prices are through the roof, traffic is a nightmare, roads are falling apart, declining businesses with a government and council that are only interested in Spending millions on bike lanes instead of addressing real issues. Looking at the costs it seems to even itself out apart from the higher rental prices in Toronto.

I haven’t been to Calgary or Vancouver although both look great, Vancouver seems to be even more expensive than Toronto!

Cheers,

stevie

Vancouver IS more expensive than Toronto by all s.
If you are seriously considering Vancouver then you should first of all look at costs of rental properties to see how far your decent salary is going to go.

What company did you and how are you getting on? There seems to be quite a few recruitment drives at the moment to bring resource from the UK to Canada so I assume there are labour shortages to fill. I’m considering applying for a construction PM role but would be great to hear from someone who’s went through the process already. Cheers, M

Stevie....I moved to Canada in the 70s to Toronto and I will tell you that this once great city is a shid show now . The Liberal govt has decimated the country by running up the largest deficit in our history at over $60B. Crime at record highs, housing at record high, drug use through the roof. Just a heads up
