Hi looking for advice. I am thinking of moving my 16 year old son to South Africa to do his GCSE's in a small private school in East London. We moved to the UK from Dubai when he was 8 and his relationship with school has deteriorated to the point of expulsion about a year ago. The friendship group he's with in he UK is tricky in our small commuter belt town and he is vulnerable. There seems to be a very toxic culture that seems to affect boys in particular and I really need to change the trajectory he is on and give him one last chance of having a positive learning experience that I don't think he's had ever. We have a few s there having spent a month last summer. I have a job that I can work remotely so would be accompanying him. How do I find out and go both being in the country legally for between 9 months to 3 years (potentially if it goes well and he does his A levels there too?). We have both British and French nationality.

You need to the South African Embassy in London to enquire about visas. Your son could possibly get a student visa; not sure whether your idea of working remotely in South Africa would be permissable.
Alternatively get a good immigration lawyer.

Hi, many thanks for your reply. I tried ing them but they have outsourced all visa enquiries to a private company that does visas for multiple countries and couldn't advise me. They were also not aware of the newly devised digital nomad visa that I read was introduced in June last year (June 2024). I have reached out to a couple of firms based in South Africa who deal with immigration to enquire, but I haven't had a response yet. Fingers crossed I will get some clarity soon. :)
