Hi Guys
To get a feel of the waiting period I am going to endure, I have just spoken to a manager at DHA offices I submitted my application at and below is what he said:-
  • It is taking between 1 to 1.5 years to get an induction booking after approval of the application.
  • The timescales might improve now that we have a new minister who he believes is more responsive and is working hard to improve the DHA istration.
  • He reckons the induction is unnecessary and if he had his way would do away with it. Under normal circumstances it should take a max of 2 months to get a certificate once an application has been approved.
  • DHA HQ drives the whole process and there is nothing they can do to expedite the processes.

Good day,
Which home affairs did you use to submit? I wanted to submit at JHB Harrison but its look like the building will be close till October for compliance reason. Your fast response will be appreciate.
Regards

I applied for Citizenship in 2019 upon holding a PR for 5 years. I've been making a follow up post Covid and I have been told that they were busy with PR verification till today. What's the Ministerial number?

I haven't heard of any inductions this year. The last ones I heard of were in December last year.
Yes! The last in KZN I am aware of was held in September at Umgeni road and nothing since...

Wait a minute!

Did you apply for proof/verification of PR from the DHA office? That's the mistake I had made in 2019 and I ended up waiting for 3 years. In 2022 i still didn't have it and decided to apply for another one at vfs. I received it (vfs one) after 1 yr, 1 month & 1 week. Maybe you should do the same.

Did you not do the PR verification before submitting your application for Citizenship?

Normally PR must first be verified before an application for Naturalisation can be submitted.

It sounds like you submitted your application without the PR verification.

Hi,

How long does the verification process take to issue a certificate after induction? I've been waiting for a year and a half after induction. ing the DG office hasn’t helped; they seem to have no clear answers. When I asked if it would take five more years, they replied that it may or may not.

No minister is willing to sign the certificates. Only a court order will enforce the law. Since we paid for a service, DHA is obliged to finalize our applications timeously. Nevertheless, I'm beginning to appreciate the PR status. With or without the certificate it won't stop me from achieving my goals.

I did my induction in July 2022, after applying in April 2019, and received an SMS saying my application was finalised in December 2019. Since I have been receiving the same you have been receiving. I feel there is something unethical about not finalising applications just because you can and not bothering to even communicate about it. At the very least, a blanket communication saying they can't finalise naturalisation applications because of some process or another is more respectful to people whose money and applications you have taken. They managed to do it with temporary permits for a while, so I wonder why it's different with these applications. No one seems to care. I have read elsewhere on this forum that some people are told the government does not owe them naturalisation when they follow up, so they should be patient. That attitude and lack of communication give me little hope that this will be quickly resolved. But I know some people have also been treated far worse than me. During our induction, some people sitting next to me were doing inductions for the 3rd time or more with no certificate in sight. They had submitted their applications as far back as 2012 and 2009. it was regrettable to hear their stories.

So I should be aiming for 15 more years of waiting and 3 more inductions with no certificate? 💀💀💀
